Rail Baltica - 1435 mm standard gauge railway line development in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (Part VII)

The project is part of the pre-identified, cross-border Rail Baltica project connecting the three Baltic States with Central Europe along the North Sea – Baltic Corridor. The aim of the Global Project Rail Baltica (Tallinn-Riga-Kaunas-Warsaw axis) is to develop a new, EU gauge, double-track, electrified, fast conventional railway line to eliminate the technical bottleneck due to the gauge differences (1520 mm vs. EU 1435 mm).This project constitutes the next phase of the Rail Baltica Global Project building upon the following CEF Actions: 2014-EU-TMC-0560-M, 2014-LT-TMC-0109-M, 2015-EU-TM-0347-M, 2016-EU-TMC-0116-M, 2019-EU-TMC-0282-S, 2019-EU-TMC-0280-W, 2020-EU-TMC-0076-S. The main objective of this project is a set of designs and works extending the cross-border main line construction in all 3 Baltic States as well as pre-construction works in the last design areas to enter later into construction. In particular works are aimed in Tallinn to Riga section (Work Package 2) covering mainline construction in the Ulemiste area and the initial development of a construction facility at Skulte infrastructure maintenance facility in order to provide construction logistic base for the Northern section of Latvia. In Work package 3 the focus is on constructing the first sections from Misa towards Latvian/Lithuanian border, and preparation of contracts for construction of Latvian/Lithuanian cross-border section. Work Package 4 is to deliver missing designs in section Lithuanian/Polish Border - Kaunas - Vilnius, while together with Work Package 6 (land acquisition in Latvia and Lithuania) entering later into construction phase. Environmental studies (Work Package 5) are aiming to climate proofing of the Global Project. Work package 1 covers all the necessary administrative resources and tools to ensure that the project is implemented and managed in the most efficient way.
