Rail Baltica Implementation Project

The Rail Baltica project, ongoing for over 10 years, aims to establish a major railway infrastructure connecting the Baltic states. The project has faced delays and lacks a clear legal framework defining responsible ministries and agencies. The Ministry of Transport has prepared a bill to clarify responsibilities and project execution order, currently under consideration by the Saeima. The project has a target completion date of 2030, which is widely regarded as unrealistic by involved parties. There is also concern about a funding gap estimated at five billion euros by 2029.
