Description | General Electric is proposing to build additional rail sidings near the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum in Pittsfield and Lenox Dale to facilitate the transport of PCB-contaminated sediments as part of the Rest of River cleanup. The sidings will allow loading of lined, sealed shipping containers for transport to landfills or out-of-area disposal. Construction is planned to start in 2027, with the sidings operational from 2028 through 2032. The Utility Drive siding will be removed and the state-owned property restored after use, while the Woods Pond siding will be donated to the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum. |
