Description | The Railways Development Project for Sudan will finance the first two years of the Sudan Railways Development Program. The project aims to provide renewal and modernization, an increase in capacity and extension of the railway system. This project will consist of: 1) Purchase of 15 diesel locomotives; 2) 101 coaches; 3) Relaying tracks of 800 km from Kassala to Gedaref line; 4) Construction of the Western extension to Nyala; 5) Construction materials for the Southern extension to Wau; 6) Building of two cargo berths with dredging equipment; and 7) Improvements of the river fleet railway facilities. All of the Sudan Railway properties, equipment, permanent way and buildings are well maintained but require renewal, expansion and modernization to meet the demands for increased capacity, and for greater operating efficiency and economy. |
