Description
Description | The project involved the installation of rainbow crosswalks along the intersections of Cedar Springs Road, a historic LGBTQ+ strip in Dallas, Texas. These crosswalks served as a symbol of LGBTQ+ visibility and community identity. The crosswalks were installed without using taxpayer funds, with the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce raising $128,250 for installation by 2020 and an additional $45,000 for repainting in 2025. However, following orders from the presidential administration and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the rainbow crosswalks were removed and are to be replaced by standard white crosswalk stripes by April 28, 2026. The Cedar Springs Merchant Association pledged to develop a campaign of bold, permanent visibility through legacy projects such as art installations, enhanced lighting, and permanent rainbow structures to maintain LGBTQ+ visibility in the area. |
