Description | Objectives The Rainbow Shield project aims to enhance the legal protection of LGBTI people in Bulgaria. The specific objectives of the project are: • To expand the scope of legal practitioners prepared to deal with LGBTI cases and enhance their expertise in doing so; • To provide possibilities for effective handling of discrimination and other LGBTI rights violations in a holistic way, including legal advice, litigation, psychological support and media preparation; • To raise awareness among the LGBTI community about possibilities for legal protection in cases of discrimination and other violations of their rights and increase cases of reporting; • To test and disseminate best practices of civil organisations of enhancing legal protection of LGBTI people around Europe. Activities • Trainings and networking among legal practitioners • International study visit • Launch and runing of holistic legal program • Campaign within the LGBTI community • Trainign of LGBTI community leaders • Community events • International conference Possible litigation, in order to be co-funded under the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme, should be in areas that are “within the limits of the powers conferred upon the Union”, or, in other words, within the competence of the Union. Type and number of persons benefiting from the project • Lawyers, legal practitioners and law students (Directly: 50; Indirectly: 300) • LGBTI community in Bulgaria (Directly: 400; Indirectly: 10 000) • Peer LGBTI and human rights organisations in other EU countries (directly: 15; Indirectly: 80) Type and number of deliverables to be produced • 18 regular meetings for legal practitioners • 5 trainings for legal practitioners • 8 articles for legal practitioners • Analysis of existing LGBTI-related cases • 30 consultations and 10 cases filed within the legal program • Psychological support and media training and consultancy • 1 campaign in the community • 2 trainings for LGBTI community leaders • 14 community events • Research on good practices on legal protection initiatives • Toolkit on running legal programs for LGBTI people |
