Information Western Railway [WR] - II has come up with Rajkot - Kanalus Doubling Project [111.2 Kms] with a ticket size of 1080.58 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The doubling between Viramgam and Vani Road Section has already been completed. Railway Board sanctioned the doubling project from Viramgam to Surendranagar vide Pink Book Item No. 21 for the year 2010 -11. The construction work for doubling of Viramgam - Surendranagar section is completed. Also Railway Board sanctioned the doubling project from Surendranagar to Rajkot vide Pink Book Item No. 26 for the year 2015 -16. The construction work for doubling of Surendranagar - Rajkot section is in progress. As such, if the doubling project from Rajkot to Okha has been sanctioned, the entire section right from Mumbai to Okha would be a double line section. The proposed doubling from Rajkot to Okha would lead to all round development of Saurashtra region. Railway would be getting substantial Goods traffic and there would be minimum detention to both Goods and Passenger traffic. The single line BG section between Rajkot - Okha has become over saturated and needs for additional parallel BG line to ease out operational working.
