Description

Description

This project is located in Cuthbert, Georgia. It will include renovating part of the former Randolph County Courthouse (circa 1886) to convert to the Randolph County Welcome Center. The structure housing the Randolph County Welcome Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and leads into the Cuthbert Historic District (also listed on the NRHP) and formal town square. The Welcome Center will document the history of Randolph County, including significant role of the railroad in the County, through photographic exhibits throughout the Welcome Center. The use of the TE grant for the Randolph County Welcome Center would fund the repairs to the exterior building envelope, making the building weatherproof. The weatherproofing of the building allows the County to focus other funding and construction opportunities on the rehabilitation of the building interior and re-occupancy of a significant historic structure on the Scenic Hometown Highway.
