The Port of Rangoon Rehabilitation Project for Burma will support the most urgent needs of the Port of Rangoon, including rehabilitation of mechanical cargo-handling equipment due to war damage. The project includes the following components: a) reconstruction of three cargo harves with necessary storage shades and installations at the Sule Pagoda wharf; b) procurement of mechanical cargo equipment; and c) various other works including the beginning of construction of an additional rice wharf at Ahlone. About four-fifths of Burma's foreign trade is handled through the Port of Rangoon, and the rehabilitation works will contribute to the efficient functioning of the port which is of vital importance to the national economy.
