Description | Asia Hydro Power Generations (Pvt.) Ltd., subsidiary of Rank Holdings, from Sri Lanka, wdeveloped the 12MW Gatambe small hydropower plant (run-of-river). The project was expected to produce 56GWh annually, for 30 years. It is located on the Mahaweli Ganga River. The power is sold to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) under a Standard Power Purchase Agreement, based on the average avoided cost of the last three years. The project started reportedly in December 2006. Crediting period started in October 2007. Construction was expected to start in September 2006. The project applied for UNFCCC CDM financing, administered by the IBRD for Denmark. Financial closure date was ESTIMATED based on 25% rule at March 2007. Total cost was reported by sponsor at US$28 million.
