Description

Description

The Punjab government has proposed allocating 500 meters of land on both sides of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) Project for the development of economic zones, a medical city, tourism sites, a wholesale market, and a truck terminal. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and promote organized urban growth. It includes setting up economic and industrial zones, a dry port, an expo center, transport terminals, wholesale and grain markets, an agro-forest park, a fruit and vegetable market, and a general bus stand along the Ring Road corridor. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, create a clean, healthy, and safe environment, boost the regional economy, create new jobs, and improve urban services. Construction work is more than 75% complete, with some delays due to heavy rains. The project cost is Rs35 billion and is being executed by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). A feasibility study for Phase-II is underway.
