Description

Description

The bilingual, multidisciplinary Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Montreal (JMCEM) is a joint initiative between Université de Montréal and McGill University. The ten members’ team will implement an innovative, high-impact research program, and deliver new activities aimed at training a new cohort of EU studies scholars and boosting the depth and breadth of knowledge of the EU and its member states among the general public and Québec and Canadian policymakers. The 2023-2026 project (research, teaching, and outreach activities) will first focus on the dynamics and consequences of recent shifts in transnational governance and international relations for the European Union, while using different disciplinary approaches to foster dialogue and synergies across disciplines. Second, it seeks to support policy makers to develop more nuanced understanding of the processes at work and the place of the EU in a globalized and changing world, as well as to contribute to the public debate around these issues. Third, it aims at training the next generation of EU scholars. The planned activities are designed to reach university as well as provincial and federal civil servants, European policymakers, diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, and with the general public. Deliverables and activities include teaching in EU studies, research output, public speaking series, lectures in pre-university colleges, professionalization workshop for graduate students, support to student’ achievement in EU studies, policy briefs, infographics, maps and e-learning modules, available to students and the general public via our online EU toolbox. Our dissemination strategy relies on academic and non-academic publications, policy briefs, digital communication, partners’ and networks’ mobilization, media, and the diffusion of open educational resources.
