Reading to Philadelphia Passenger Rail Service Restoration

The Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA) and Amtrak have signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their partnership on the proposed Reading to Philadelphia passenger rail corridor. The project aims to restore passenger rail service connecting Reading, Pottstown, and Phoenixville with Philadelphia, New York, and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor network. Amtrak will operate the service and complete key planning tasks during the Federal Railroad Administration's Corridor Identification and Development Program's second phase at no cost to SRPRA. Preliminary work includes project management planning, route analysis, and public outreach, with future steps involving environmental documentation, design, and construction planning.
