Real-Time Hydrogen Fuel Cell Control in Solar Hybrid System

Korea East-West Power (EWP), in partnership with Dongseo Power and Hyundai Motor, has launched a real-time control demonstration at its Ulsan Power Headquarters, coupling a 1MW hydrogen fuel cell to a 0.5MW solar PV system to manage renewable intermittency. The pilot tests rapid load-following capability, aiming to dynamically stabilize output as solar generation fluctuates. The system uses adaptive software controls and vehicle-derived rapid-response modules to fine-tune performance, operating like a virtual power plant. The trial builds on Ulsan's existing hydrogen infrastructure and aims to scale for industrial clusters, microgrids, and hydrogen hubs nationwide.
