Upgraded line (Amsterdam –) D/NL border – Emmerich – Oberhausen The Emmerich-Oberhausen line is an important part of the European freight transport network. With a length of around 73 kilometres, it is an important piece of the puzzle in the freight corridor from Rotterdam to Genoa. The line has reached its limits due to the increase in freight and passenger transport in recent years. To reflect this development, Deutsche Bahn will be carrying out major building work on the line over the next few years. Several engineering works will be implemented in several stages. The core of the project will be the triple-track upgrade of the line to increase line capacity and optimise operational processes. Before this stage, the first step comprised modernising the control-command and signalling systems (CCS) and putting the electronic interlocking in Emmerich into operation. Renewing the changeover of the railway electrification systems at the border to the Netherlands simplifies international rail transport and saves time. The line will also be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). The works covered by this project are part of the upgraded line (Amsterdam) D/NL border – Emmerich – Oberhausen and are within construction stage 2 between Dinslaken (planning approval section 1.3.) and Voerde (planning approval section 1.4). It is imperative to implement the following work cycles in construction stage 2 to develop and realise the three-track line upgrade. The project consists of the following Work Packages: 1.Measures of structural engineering and transport stations , 2. New construction of the overhead line/ Adaptation of the power systems , 3. Construction of the new 3rd track and related measures and 4.Overarching associated measures for work packages 1-3.
