Upgraded line (Amsterdam –) D/NL border – Emmerich – Oberhausen The Emmerich-Oberhausen line is an important part of the European freight transport network. With a length of around 73 kilometres, it is an important piece of the puzzle in the freight corridor from Rotterdam to Genoa. The line has reached its limits due to the increase in freight and passenger transport in recent years. To reflect this development, Deutsche Bahn will be carrying out major building works on the line over the next few years. Various engineering works will be implemented in several stages. The core of the project will be the triple-track upgrade of the line to increase line capacity and optimise operational processes. Previously, the control-command and signalling system (CCS) was modernised in a first step and the electronic interlocking in Emmerich was put into operation in 2013. Renewing the changeover of the railway electrification systems at the border to the Netherlands in 2015 simplified international rail transport and saves time. The line will also be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). The work packages applied for are part of the upgraded line (Amsterdam) D/NL border – Emmerich –Oberhausen and are located in line section 3 between Voerde-Friedrichsfeld (planning approval section 2.1) and Wesel (planning approval section 2.2). The following work packages are mandatory for the development and realisation of the three-track line extension in line section 3. Work package 1 accompanies the measures defined with work package 2. It includes design work in the implementation phase, construction supervision services and project management services. Work package 2 includes the construction of the 3rd track and includes all construction preparation measures (phase 0) in the entire line section 3 as well as construction phases 1 and 2 in the planning approval sections 2.1 and 2.2 between the beginning of line section 3 and the beginning of Wesel station.
