Description

Description

Based at Maynooth University in Ireland, Realising European Values through European Law (REVEL) will pursue an ambitious programme of research and knowledge exchange consisting of 6 work packages, exploring the realisation of EU values through EU law from different angles and reaching out to a plurality of audiences. REVEL focuses on constructive approaches to strengthening EU values through law exploring the EU Digital Framework, Strategic Litigation and Advocacy, Substantive Equality, the Rule of Law, and Interactions with the Council of Europe. The research programme is designed to cover EU internal and external relations, areas of EU legislative competence and of limited competence, fields dominated by private actors and fields with high levels of state involvement, substantive law, and procedural and practical questions. REVEL will produce a mix of academic (journal issue, blog symposia) and policy-focused outputs (credited online module for policy advocates, briefing papers, factsheets, OERs). The research will be accompanied by a programme of public-facing events: an annual lecture, an innovative Communiversity series of lectures in local libraries, and an annual student debate to mark the Sakharov prize. Each WP is led by a subject specialist ensuring a high quality of activities and outputs. REVEL will disseminate its research and expertise among a multitude of audiences ranging from the general public, to civil society, practising lawyers, policy makers, regulators and academics. Through its visitors’ programme, the participation of external speakers at events, and its engagement of colleagues not normally in contact with EU studies, REVEL will develop synergies in the form of knowledge exchange and foster long-lasting professional relationships. Together REVEL’s activities will achieve its prime objective: to build and firmly establish Maynooth University as a centre of excellence of European studies, and in particular European values and European law.
