Rebuilding Shands Bridge

The project involves rebuilding the Shands Bridge as part of Florida's First Coast Expressway. The new bridge will be a high-speed, 4-lane concrete bridge with wide shoulders, lighting, and a separated shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. It will have a vertical clearance of 65 ft to allow larger vessels to navigate the St. Johns River, and will be approximately 9,282 ft long with 72 spans. The project addresses issues of the existing bridge, including limited lanes, minimal shoulders, no lighting, and low clearance. The bridge is part of the third and final segment of the First Coast Expressway, which is a 46-mile limited access toll road connecting I-10 in Duval County to I-95 in St. Johns County.
