Description

The project involves the design, build, recover, operate and maintain the expansion and improvement of the waste water infrastructure, located in the Metropolitan region of Recife and the City of Coiana, Brazil. Sponsor is BRK Ambiental, in which Canadian fund manager Brookfield owns 70%, while the infrastructure investment fund FI-FGTS, managed by Caixa Economica Federal, owns the remaining 30%. Project's total cost adds up to $313.9 million (BRL1.68 billion), divided into two phases. The first phase of the project was financed in 2013 with a 23-year loan obtained by state-owned Brazilian bank Caixa Economica Federal, totaling R245.6 million and a 20-year BRL415.5 million from the Fundo de Desenvolvimento do Nordeste. For the second phase, IDB Invest provided a 20-year loan in local currency, totaling R442 million ($82.5 million) and the regional development bank Banco do Nordeste (BNB) closed on a $ 107.9 million (BRL578 million) loan in January 2019. Financial close for the second phase was announced in June 2020.
