Description
Description | How can energy use in public buildings be reduced and how can policies and guidelines be designed to make a difference for society? Reconcile will work on these issues across the border. Many Scandinavian municipalities have successfully reduced energy consumption during operation according to EU requirements, especially in the last 5-10 years. Not all, and not the maximum. In the longer term, it is also important to address the issue of “embedded energy” — energy consumption that occurs at the start of construction. At present, more than half of the energy related to the life of a building is used already in the construction phase. The Reconcile project will answer questions about how energy use in public buildings can be reduced and how policies and guidelines can be designed, and knowledge is shared between stakeholders so that it makes a difference for society. The project points out that the use of steel and concrete requires a lot of energy during the production phase and is also energy-intensive during the construction phase. The project will study and develop good examples to minimise operational energy and find the right balance between new construction and renovation of buildings. The project sees two scenarios: to build with lighter constructions and to take advantage of buildings and construction components for reuse. The project has divided its activities into three parts: Good practices for energy optimisation during operation The choice between new construction systems and old ones Energy efficient light constructions One of the objectives of the project is to come up with a good practice. It shall then be further disseminated in order to make it accessible to more people in the ÖKS region than the participating municipalities and universities that are partners in the projects. |
