Description
Description | The aim of the FC measure is to restore the supply of drinking water to the population and to restore sanitation in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the legitimacy of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the operator Costal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) in the Gaza Strip is to be increased. The proposed measures include the repair and reconstruction of the water supply and sanitation systems as a result of the recent fighting in order to improve the acute supply emergency of the population and the precarious health and environmental situation. The target group of the measures is the entire population of the Gaza Strip of around 1.8 million people, who will benefit from the positive health and environmental effects of the emergency measures. The measures include clean-up work and the reconstruction of the water and wastewater infrastructure across the entire supply and disposal chain, i.e. wells, desalination, transport, processing, storage, distribution, house connections, collection, treatment, disposal, etc. In addition, the associated transport and energy infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, buildings as well as operating costs for personnel, fuel, electricity, chemicals and spare parts are to be financed. Environmental damage caused by spilled fuel, wastewater and chemicals is also to be remedied. Due to the unclear further development and extent of damage, the financing of emergency aid measures is not ruled out. Any remaining funds are to be used to finance the expansion of the (waste) water infrastructure. The total damage and expansion measures in the water and wastewater sector in Gaza amount to up to EUR 530 million. The measure is to be provided with an initial FC contribution of EUR 9 million. |
