Description

Description

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Administration of China in the Tibet Autonomous Region has appointed a joint venture of UK and Chinese consulting engineers – Arup and Beijing Zhonghang Zhucheng to provide professional services for the reconstruction and extension of the Lhasa Gonggar International Airport in Tibet. The joint venture will provide structural, mechanical engineering, and public health engineering services for the new 88,000 m2 Terminal 3, and design consultancy services for the airport’s ancillary buildings. The airport, operational since 1965, is one of the highest-altitude airports in the world with an elevation of 3,570m. Construction is expected to start later this year and be completed by the end of 2020, increasing the airport's capacity to handle 5.5 million passengers annually.
