Description
Description | The aim of the FC Housing Reconstruction Programme in Gaza is to improve living conditions and enable internally displaced persons to return to houses that are structurally safe and appropriate for their families and that were severely damaged or completely destroyed during the Gaza conflict in the summer of 2014. During the implementation of the project, the project objective was expanded to include the rehabilitation of housing units that were of significantly below-average quality. Furthermore, families whose housing was destroyed in escalations of the conflict since 2014 were also integrated into the programme and a psychosocial support component was added. The BMZ has provided a total volume of EUR 65.3 million since 2016. The project sponsors are UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) for affected non-refugees and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) for registered Palestine refugees. The reconstruction of housing is carried out independently by the beneficiary families (self-help), who are closely supported by the project sponsors. Under Component 1 (UNOPS; EUR 5 million; completed), 155 housing units were rebuilt and 519 families received legal advice. Under Component 2 (UNRWA; EUR 18.15 million; completed), 682 housing units were rebuilt. The ongoing Component 3 (UNOPS; EUR 29.15 million, including an increase of EUR 4 million in 2022) includes the reconstruction of around 475 housing units, legal advice for around 865 families and the rehabilitation of around 1,375 housing units as well as psychosocial support for around 165 affected families. Component 4 (UNRWA; EUR 13 million - of which EUR 6 million is still being implemented) includes the reconstruction of around 380 housing units and psychosocial support for around 150 particularly vulnerable families in the target group. |
