Description
Description | The rehabilitation of the stormwater collection and diversion management system on the Fish Hatchery Road will see reconstruction of open roadside ditches and new culvert installations. The project’s immediate objectives are to improve and maintain clean, healthy water quality in receiving streams as well as reduce flow rates during heavy rainfall and spring run-off events. The project will consist of 18 kilometers (18,000 meters) of ditching and installation of approximately six (6) 12" x 20’ culverts and one (1) 5’ x 60’ culvert. The Fish Hatchery Road services and provides access to 28 households and the Dorion Fish Culture Station and Sub-Station. The reconstruction of open roadside ditches and new culvert installs will improve water quality issues as vegetation in an open roadway drainage ditch serves as a water filtering system, reducing flow rates allowing for settlement of unwanted substances, therefore, preventing them from entering receiving streams and natural waterways. |
