Description
Description | The project implemented by the railway administration of the Czech Republic (Správa železnic, státní organizace) focuses on the reconstruction of three passenger buildings located in Bečov nad Teplou, Františkovy Lázně and Cheb in the Karlovy Vary Region. The project aims to renovate the outdated train stations with historical and architectural value as well as to improve rail-related services and facilities for passengers and railway staff. The project will address the social, environmental and economic challenges of a coal region undergoing transition to a low-carbon economy. The modernisation of railway stations will improve the comfort and safety of passengers and create a better work environment for the railway employees. The train stations will also become accessible to people with physical and sensory impairments. Moreover, the modernised buildings will have enhanced energy efficiency and save around 303.5 tonnes of CO2 annually. The project is also expected to diversify the local economy by creating approximately 151 new job opportunities , maintaining employment in the railway sector by sustaining 197 jobs, and increasing tourism in the region. The project is supported by a € 38.2 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), awarded to the CZ Ministry of Finance and managed by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, which is complemented by a € 9.6 million grant from the European Commission. The total investment cost of the project is € 53.1 million. |
