At present, thanks to European funds, external-border region of the Republic of Estonia - Narva border riverside area converted into safe and comfortable place for tourists, visitors and business development. Entrepreneurs express interest to develop business here, because the area has a big potential for development. Nevertheless, the important part of the area -Hahn staircase -that links the lower and upper promenade in historical part of city is in a deplorable state. The staircase needs to be reconstructed in order to increase safety and attractiveness of the historical sites for tourists and create step by step additional possibilities for business development on the promenades’ area. The main challenge tackled by project – needs for increasing attractiveness of cultural and heritage sites of border region to visitors and business based on the general concept of development of Narva riverside historical territory. Overall objective: Increase attractiveness of Narva cultural and heritage sites to visitors and business by reconstruction of the Hahn Stairs. The main project results of the project after completion of the reconstruction works of Hahn staircase: historical riverside area improved due to reconstructed Hahn’s staircase, link of the lower and upper promenades is safe and comfortable for tourists, local population and business, improved and created attractive places for tourism and business development. Local population and tourist companies are informed that the Narva historical border riverside area has been improved and is ready to receive guests and residents of the city, and there are opportunities for business development on this staircase connecting the promenades.   Project beneficiaries are:TOURISTS - ca 50 000 domestic and foreign tourists per year. They get more possibilities to visit historical places in Narva, spend time by the riverside, enjoy picturesque view of historical fortifications, and participate in activities on the promenades and in historical part of Narva city.LOCAL POPULATION: 53 626  inhabitants in Narva (01.01.2023), reconstructed the Hahn staircase creates more various possibilities for people to spend leisure time, contribute to higher living quality level.ENTREPRENEURS: Constructed promenades create more possibilities for business development esp. in the field of tourist services incl. Street Cafe service on the Hahn stairs (at least 12 companies).Project partner Narva City Government get tourist product, landscaped riversides and place for attracting entrepreneurs to develop business in riverside area.LOCAL AND REGIONAL AUTHORITY. They get reconstructed Hahn staircase . Indirectly city income increases. Cities and regions image improves.STATES. Landscaped state border areas. Image of cross-border region improves.Main activities: -             Reconstruction of the Hahn staircase (the area under consideration - ca 534 m2, installation of LED lighting, restoration of stairs and walls), -             Carrying out of workshop for entrepreneurs to attract them to reconstructed riverside area, including Hahn staircase, -             Promotion and information about reconstruction of the Hahn staircase, -             Management and related activities. Project contributes to Programme TO Specific Area: Increasing SME development and entrepreneurship by fostering cross-border business contacts and the development of services and products. The project creates opportunities for the development of business, products, and increases the attractiveness of the region, especially in terms of historical and cultural heritage. The main impact of the project is created conditions for further socio-economic development of external-border region of the Republic of Estonia.
