Reconstruction of wastewater pipes in Võru town

Depreciated and old pipes are one of the main causes for unaccounted-for water (leakages and infiltration). Old and broken piping systems pose a potential hazard to both, shared water assets and public health. Thus, reconstruction of old pipelines is crucial for providing stable service and for avoiding groundwater contamination. The main objective of this project is to improve the quality of shared water assets in Võru area by reconstructing the wastewater pipes in a problematic pipe section in Võru town. Building new pipes allows reducing leakages, which consequently reduces potential hazard to the groundwater and also helps improving the service quality and resource efficiency. An additional broader objective of this project is increasing environmental awareness and fostering the development and improvement of water utility and sewage service in Võru town. The main output of this project is a newly reconstructed wastewater piping on Pikk Street in Võru town (approximately 1100 metres of wastewater pipes). The main target groups that benefit from this project are the end-users of public sewage service in Võru town, the service provider Võru Vesi AS and Võru Town Government that is responible for this public service. The main investment activites are construction works and owner supervision for the duely conducted construction. As core activities, a knowledge exhange meeting between wastewater specialists and an information day for high school students will be organized. In addition, project management activites are necessary for administrating contracts, co-ordinating communication between all parties and for reporting and preparing payment requests. Visibility and communication activities will also be carried out to inform the general public and to acknowledge the involvement of the Programme in the project.
