Recycling Waste Automobile Tyres Project (Pyrolysis Process)
Sector: Biomass • Location: Kabwe, Zambia
Source: United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
The Recycling Waste Automobile Tyres Project is supposed to be a joint venture between two or more private investors. It involves the setting up of a new 30,000 tonnes per annum continuous waste tyres recycling plant using pyrolysis process to produce mainly heavy-duty fuel oil (biodiesel); carbon black; and scrap metal for steel wire production. The project will also produce hydrocarbon/methane g

Description
Description | The Recycling Waste Automobile Tyres Project is supposed to be a joint venture between two or more private investors. It involves the setting up of a new 30,000 tonnes per annum continuous waste tyres recycling plant using pyrolysis process to produce mainly heavy-duty fuel oil (biodiesel); carbon black; and scrap metal for steel wire production. The project will also produce hydrocarbon/methane gas in smaller quantities. The total estimated cost for operationalizing the project is US$ 2.5 million. This project will partly be funded by Senfra group with 20% of readily available required project capital. A strategic equity partner(s) is required to provide the remaining 80% of investment resources in kind and/or in cash. The terms on project for the Senfra Group is turn-key assistance with equity investment of 20% (on buy-back basis with a 5-year guaranteed exit at expected IRR, to be mutually decided). The Zambian government will facilitate the allocation of land. The proposed site is in Kabwe, Central Province of Zambia with an alternative option of setting it up in Lusaka at a Multifacility Economic Zone. The project will take advantage of the excess supply of waste tyres (raw material). Globally, about 1.6 billion of new tyres are produced and around 1 billon of these tyres are generated as waste. However, only 100 million of the tyres are processed per annum. In 2020, the global Diesel market size was US$ 935160 million and it is expected to reach US$ 1,269,870 million by the end of 2027, with a CAGR of 4.4% during 2021-2027. In addition to the biodiesel produced, the Pyrolysis Process recovers the valuable carbon black materials from the waste tyres. Project will use technology that will minimize environmental pollution while ensuring that waste tyres are recycled. The to be used high quality pyrolysis & distillation plant is a very clean operation with no emissions or waste & conforms to ISO standards of pollution controls. |
