Description | The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) had $2.1 billion in federal funding obligated for the Red Line extension and Red and Purple modernization projects. The Red and Purple modernization project is near completion, while the Red Line extension will extend rail service 5.3 miles south from 95th Street to 130th Street on Chicago's far South Side. Funding for these projects was paused by the White House Office of Management and Budget on October 3, 2025, leading to a lawsuit by CTA against the Trump administration. |
