Description | The Red Sands Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is a 153-MW/612-MWh standalone battery energy storage system in South Africa. Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd has signed a term sheet to supply the battery energy storage system and will provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage system. The project includes a 15-year operations and maintenance contract and is part of South Africa's inaugural Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (BESIPPPP). It aims to support the national grid through load shifting and grid stabilisation, aiding renewable integration and addressing power supply challenges. The project is expected to reach financial close in 2025 and commence operations in 2027. |
