The redevelopment project of Ernakulam Junction railway station began in 2022 with an estimated deadline of 2025. The project involves building a separate three-storey building on the eastern side with passenger booking, hospital, and administrative offices, and a four-storey building on the western side housing ticketing, waiting lounges, and commercial areas with connectivity to all platforms. The project was delayed due to inefficiency and sub-par work by the initial contractor, leading to contract termination and blacklisting of the firm. A new contractor decision is pending, causing further delays.
