Description
Description | Tammistu is a widespread type of village in Estonia, which developed in the centers of collective farms during the Soviet period. A cluster of apartment buildings and single-family homes are located in the sparsely populated area. Different water and wastewater systems have been built at different times to ensure the living environment of such village centers. These systems are often outdated and many households do not have wastewater solutions. In order to improve and preserve the quality of the Lake Peipsi basin, it is important to ensure the existence and functioning of water and sewage systems in such compact settlements. In the village of Tammistu, there is approx. 800 m of sewage pipeline, which was built 40 years ago. There are about 500m of existing water pipelines. The water pipeline has been built from cast iron and steel pipes at different times. Pipelines are depreciated. The general goal of the project is to ensure the good condition of the Lake Peipsi watershed ecosystem through the reconstruction of the old leaking sewage systems of the settlements. In addition to the improvement of the environmental condition, the living environment, welfare and resilience of the people in the region will also improve. As a result of the project, a high-quality public water supply and sewerage connection will be built for 17 properties in the village of Tammistu. Since a large part of them are apartment buildings, the number of beneficiaries is approximately 110 people. In addition to investments in water systems, an important part of the project is to inform residents about environmentally sustainable water use and environmental protection in general. High-quality drinking water is an important resource in achieving resilience to climate change. In addition to the local residents, the residents of the entire Pieps basin will also benefit from the improved living environment as a result of the project. The main activities of the project are the construction of the water and sewage systems of the village of Tammistu (a total of approx. 300 meters both) and the informing and training of the residents of the region (1 information day and information sharing in various media channels). |
