Description | Australian power and gas company Alinta Energy announced the start of construction works on the first phase of a 500-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in South Australia. Stage 1 will deliver 250 MW of capacity, capable of powering around 300,000 local homes for up to four hours, expected to be operational by 2028 with a 20-year lifespan. Power infrastructure provider GenusPlus Group is the principal contractor. The site will have 194 battery modules supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) and 89 inverters provided by Power Electronics. Stage 2 plans to add another 250 MW of storage with a final investment decision expected in late 2026. |
