Reflections Lookout

In response to the 2016 Horse River Wildfire, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), began construction of the Reflections Lookout to reflect upon the Wildfire Event, recognize the efforts put forth by the firefighters and commemorate the lives lost during the evacuation. Construction of the park was separated in two phases. Phase 1 is complete and resulted in construction of the Memorial Walk pathway. This grant application is for Phase 2 of the Reflections Lookout construction project, consisting of an entry plaza (with the park’s name), 6 nodes along the existing Memorial Walk pathway, a lookout structure providing a viewing area of downtown Fort McMurray, an asphalt loop trail (which connects to the Memorial Walk pathway), a playground, parking lot, lighting, and landscaping. This project falls under Category 3 (Active transportation infrastructure) of the CVRIS reporting guide, as it includes a park and pathways.
