Description | Region Oil and the Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE) were planning the development of the 150 MW Nam Kong 1 hydropower plant, near Attapeu. Project capacity has been reported as 75 MW by International Rivers, the Laos government reported 150 MW however, in 2011. Region Oil, from Russia, held an 80% stake in the project, and LHSE held 20%. Status reports of the project were mixed. It was listed as in "planning stage", but International Rivers claims construction already started in April 2010. The PDA was signed in June 2008. Commissioning was expected for 2012 by the Lao government, whilst the Vientiane Times reports 2014. Part of the electricity was claimed to be for export to Thailand.
