Regional Fund to Strengthen Drought Resilience in the Horn of Africa (Djibouti)

The project contributes to improving the drought resilience of the pastoral and agro-pastoral population in arid and semi-arid areas in the border region in southern Djibouti (Dikhil cluster). As part of the project, participatory measures are being implemented in the areas of water resource management, livestock farming and basic rural infrastructure, and additional income-generating qualifications are being imparted. This will sustainably strengthen the (agro)pastoral production system and make use of alternative income opportunities. The Djiboutian Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for implementing the project. The regional organization Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is responsible for political and strategic coordination of the cross-border activities. The available financing volume is EUR 4.0 million. The project is part of an overall regional program of up to EUR 50 million that was pledged to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) as part of the regional fund to strengthen drought resilience in the Horn of Africa.
