Description
Description | The project contributes to strengthening the drought resilience of the pastoral and agro-pastoral population in the border regions in the north-east (Dikhil cluster) and south of Ethiopia (Somali cluster). Within the framework of the project, participatory selected measures are implemented in the areas of (1) water supply and rural infrastructure, (2) livestock and pastoral farming, and (3) alternative income opportunities and basic services. This strengthens the production system of the pastoralists and agro-pastoralists and diversifies their income base. The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for implementing the project. The regional organization Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is responsible for political and strategic coordination of the cross-border activities. The available funds include the German government commitment (to IGAD) from 2012 in the amount of EUR 13.0 million in Federal Development Funds, which in turn was pledged to the Ethiopian government. |
