The Regional Electricity Savings Program, Phase I is intended to finance investments in the area of renewable energies on the demand side (electricity consumption) in selected Latin American countries in order to make a positive contribution to CO2 reduction and climate protection. The aim of the FC program is to provide a credit line for demand-side renewable energies with tailored financing conditions in order to further contribute to the saving and efficient use of electrical energy. To this end, we intend to issue a low-interest loan to the Latin American development bank CAF in the amount of up to USD 70 million. The CAF plans to pass on the funds both directly to private and state-owned companies and municipalities that are planning renewable energy projects, and indirectly via financial intermediaries, who in turn pass the loans on to micro, small and medium-sized companies (MSMEs) and households. Since most Latin American economies still have a relatively low level of renewable energy, the project has a significant demonstration effect and makes an important contribution to environmental and climate protection and thus also to achieving the climate targets agreed in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
