Description
Description | The FC project Regional Program for Palestinian Refugee Camps in the Middle East (REPAC) includes the structural planning and implementation of social and economic infrastructure in selected Palestinian refugee camps in the Middle East in order to improve living conditions there. The program builds on the activities of the Camp Improvement Program (CIP), so that the individual activities are identified using a participatory approach at the level of selected refugee camps. The aim of the FC project is to improve access to and appropriate use of social and economic infrastructure for the population in and around Palestinian refugee camps. The total costs were estimated at EUR 30 million at the time of project appraisal. EUR 7.5 million was provided for the first phase via German FC. EUR 5 million is to be provided in the second phase. The ongoing civil war in Syria has recently reached the Palestinian refugee camps in Syria. Many of the residents have tried to flee to neighboring countries. More than 50,000 of the Palestinian refugees from Syria who had to leave the country due to the unrest are currently in Lebanon. The high level of immigration is putting a strain on the Palestinian refugee communities in Lebanon and on the UNR-WA organization. In order to make a rapid contribution to ensuring the basic needs of Palestinian refugees, whose humanitarian situation has been further affected by the conflicts in the Middle East region, the FC measure REPAC was adapted so that necessary measures that help meet the immediate basic needs of the affected Palestinian refugees (basic infrastructure, food security, basic education, health care, etc.) can be financed directly, without the need for prior participatory processes (CIP). For this purpose, the second phase of REPAC was increased by EUR 1.67 million. |
