Description
Description | In order to develop the East African Community (EAC)'s potential, it is extremely important to improve the health of the population, which requires efficient health systems. There is currently an acute shortage of a sufficient number of well-trained specialists in the EAC at the national and regional health system levels, as well as at the district and health facility levels who can adequately manage the health facility supply chains. In 2016, the EAC therefore established a Regional Center of Excellence to strengthen these competencies, the Regional Center of Excellence for Vaccines Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM). The RCE-VIHSCM is based in Kigali at the University of Rwanda, School of Public Health (UR/SPH), and through its regional network offers academic and short-term training courses both in Kigali and in the other EAC member states. The aim of the FC project is to further expand the high-quality training and further education offering for health logistics in the EAC and to further establish the RCE-VIHSCM as a contact point in the region for the introduction and dissemination of innovation and proven procedures. To achieve this goal, investment measures supported by KfW in the further equipment of the center of excellence (e.g. IT, cold chain lab), as well as the financing of scholarships, the expansion of the training program and research as well as measures to further develop the center into a regional advisory center are required. The total costs amount to around EUR 15.95 million, of which EUR 14.0 million are to be financed through FC grants and around EUR 1.95 million will be contributed by the University of Rwanda/School of Public Health (project sponsor). |
