Work area 1: Profiling The correct reflection of the MNE group’s activities in a globalised world is an important task in the ESS. The objective of European Profiling is to collect high quality information on these groups and to update this information in the registers. The objective of the project is to conduct European Profiling of prioritised MNE groups as GDC Country and as partnering country in order to improve the quality of the data on the top MNE groups to address the user’s needs. A further objective is to build up collaborations with Business Registers/EGR, business and macroeconomic statistics regarding the largest MNEs at national and European level to improve globalisation statistics. In the short term, the users will benefit from high quality information on the most important MNEs. In a longer term and assuming that, the project and its evaluation will be positive these improvements in quality will be sustainable. Additionally there will be positive long-term effects when it comes to collaborations among the domains. Work area 2: LCU (Module 2.2) The German LCU exists since the beginning of 2020 and is already actively conducting investigations of MNEs. Nevertheless, there is still a need for improvement. The proposed project aims to further develop the LCU methodology, especially in the context of considering intellectual property (IP) and intellectual property products (IPP) in the analysis of MNEs. The developed methodology will be tested for at least one case study. With the project implementation, the methodology of LCU case processing will be decisively improved. The target groups are: analysts of the LCU cases, national accounts and MNE network. Since no data on IPP assets and transactions have been compiled in Germany to this date, it is a project with high innovation potential. After completion of the project, the analysis of IPP data is to become an integral part of LCU case processing and the quality assurance of the national accounts.
