Area 1 “European profiling on the structure of the Top tier MNE groups”: The EuroGroups Register (EGR) serves as a vital infrastructure for accurately reflecting the structures of multinational enterprise (MNE) groups and their economic influence. To ensure regular monitoring and treatment of the most significant MNE groups with potential sizable effect on the economy, Eurostat, in collaboration with the Task Force for the Future EGR, has introduced the new top-tier approach. This approach restricts the operation of European Profiling in the EGR/IPT tool to the structure of the top MNE groups. Consequently, National Statistical Authorities (NSAs) can focus on reviewing a larger number of groups with significant economic impact on business and macroeconomic EU and national statistics. The objective of this action is to gather high-quality information on top-tier MNE groups and update this information in the registers – both national statistical business registers and the EuroGroups Register. This will help to ensure that the EuroGroups Register is the authoritative source for the European Statistical System (ESS) as a register population for business statistics that require the coordination of cross-border information related to multinational enterprise groups.
