Rehabilitation and expansion of the Togo distribution network

The project includes the rehabilitation and expansion of the electricity distribution network in the greater Lomé area, the installation of a network control center and the development of CEET capacities, and is intended to contribute to securing and stabilizing the electricity supply in the greater Lomé area. This will increase efficiency and stability in the network and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The measures can reach a total of 300,000 people through reliable access to electrical energy. A reliable electricity supply is an essential prerequisite for competitive industrial and commercial development, which creates jobs and income and can therefore also make an essential contribution to reducing poverty. The target group of this project are those electricity consumers in the greater Lomé area who are already connected to the grid and those who will be connected in the future. According to current estimates, the total cost of this program is around EUR 48 million. Of this, EUR 38 million is to be covered by a blending project by the AFD and the EU. The financial contribution of the German Federal Development Fund from the commitment in 2016 and 2017 amounts to a total of EUR 10 million. The planned FC measure complements ongoing projects that are being implemented in the context of the West African Electricity Network (WAPP) and are aimed at the necessary strengthening of supply and transmission capacities in Togo. The project therefore ensures the efficient distribution of electricity from the WAPP network.
