Information Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim has come up with Rehabilitation of Passingdong and Bey, Shipgyer Villages and Tsong village in West Sikkim with a ticket size of 600 INR Crores. This project in Affordable Housing sub-sector involves The state of Sikkim lies on along the Himalayan Belt and the entire state has steep hilly terrain. The area is prone to frequent earthquakes, land slides cloud bursts and flash floods. The state experiences very long and heavy monsoons and winters. These four villages have been affected by land sliodesd and mass movement of the hill slopes. A large number of houses have been damaged and properties destroyed. The people are shifted to the safer locations during the monsoons but the people return during the dry seasons and also inbetween for cultivation activities. Every monsoon the Administration faces the challenge of saving lives of the inhabitants. as such there is a proposal of the Styatye Government to relocate and resettle the p[eople of these villages to a permanent and safe location.
