Description
Description | The program provides for the rehabilitation of the Nangbéto hydroelectric power station (65 MW) in Togo. It includes modernization measures and consulting services for planning and implementing the project. The power station was built between 1984 and 1987 with funds from German financial cooperation (FZ) and has been supplying electricity to Togo and its neighboring country Benin since 1988. Today, Nangbéto produces by far the cheapest electricity and is the only renewable energy source used in both countries. For these reasons, the regional energy network WAPP (West African Power Pool) also considers rehabilitation a priority. The aim of the FC measure is to contribute to a reliable supply of Togo and Benin with inexpensive and environmentally friendly electricity in the long term (FZ module goal). By covering the electricity needs of households, public institutions and companies, the measure contributes to the sustainable economic and social development of the countries (overarching development policy goal). In addition, a positive contribution is made to global climate protection (avoidance of over 51,493 tons of CO2/year). The target group is current and future electricity consumers (private households, companies, public institutions) in Benin and Togo. The costs of the measures presented as part of the inventory review amount to EUR 8 million. Taking the measures mentioned into account, the total costs of the project amount to EUR 26.05 million. The total German contribution is EUR 23 million and is to be presented in the form of an FC grant. The recipient of the funding is the Communtauté Electrique du Bénin (CEB). The CEB is a Beninese-Togolese joint venture that is responsible for electricity generation, imports and transmission in both countries. The CEB's own contribution is EUR 3.05 million. |
