Description
Description | Electricity generation, transmission and distribution in Ukraine continues to be characterized by instability and unreliability. Largely obsolete technology from the former Soviet Union leads to frequent disruptions and interruptions in electricity transmission, especially in the industrial centers in the east of the country. In view of the outdated infrastructure and the recent increase in energy demand, modernization of the transmission and distribution networks as well as the generation capacities is essential. The project includes the rehabilitation of four substations in eastern Ukraine. The project is closely linked to the ongoing FC-financed project Increasing energy efficiency in electricity transmission - modernization of substations as well as to the electricity transmission projects financed by the World Bank, EBRD and EIB. The primary goal of the project is to make a significant contribution to ensuring a stable electricity supply in the partially damaged Ukrainian electricity grid, especially in the areas of the Donbaska Regional Power System, and to increasing energy efficiency in Ukraine. Increased energy efficiency reduces Ukraine's energy dependence. By improving the electricity supply, we are contributing to the sustainable economic development of Ukraine. The target group of the project are all consumers connected to the transmission network, especially in the east of Ukraine. The project sponsor is the state transmission system operator Ukrenergo. The total cost of the project is around EUR 150 million. |
