Reimagine Palafox Street Project

The Reimagine Palafox Street project is a $10.3 million construction initiative to upgrade and widen sidewalks along a five-block area on South Palafox Street in Pensacola. The project involves rebuilding the road from the dirt up, widening sidewalks for better accessibility, adjusting crosswalks to 90-degree angles, upgrading the stormwater system to add 93,000 gallons of capacity, and adding amenities such as trees, bike racks, trash cans, and benches. The street will be closed to vehicle traffic during construction, but sidewalks and storefronts will remain accessible. The city plans to start construction as close to January 5 as possible, pending city council approval.
