Reintegration and Reconstruction Programme IV

The fourth phase of the reintegration and reconstruction programme (BMZ No. 2012 65 099) contributes to socio-economic reconstruction in south-east Liberia and to consolidating the peace process in the country (programme objective). Using a multi-sectoral approach, it aims to improve the living conditions of the population in the traditionally neglected administrative regions of Grand Gedeh and River Gee in south-east Liberia (measure objective). The individual measures of the project are divided into four programme components: 1) agriculture and market access, 2) water supply and hygiene, 3) education, 4) psychosocial care for women and girls. The combination of the measures will provide employment-promoting impulses, particularly for young people, promote equal participation in social life for women and girls, and strengthen the capacities of local government structures. The target group includes the entire population of the administrative regions of Grand Gedeh and River Gee, especially women and young people. The program, which follows on from the previous phases (BMZ No. 2005 65 028, 2007 65 677, 2009 67 059), is characterized by consolidation, including a more extensive focus on sustainability in the design of measures. The program will be implemented by Welthungerhilfe. It is supported by the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) IBIS and medica mondiale. The project is designed as an open program. The German financial contribution amounts to EUR 8.0 million. The NGOs' own contribution totals EUR 0.3 million.
