Reintegration and Reconstruction Programme V (VP)

The fifth phase of the Reintegration and Recovery Program Phase V (RRP V) aims to improve living conditions in southeastern Liberia and thus contribute to consolidating the peace process in the country (program objective). While the program was characterized by a very broad sectoral focus in the four previous phases (BMZ No. 2005 65 028, 2007 65 677, 2009 67 059, 2012 65 099), the future will focus on agriculture, market access and food security (component 1) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) (component 2), as these two areas are particularly important with regard to the desired improvement in living conditions. Furthermore, measures are planned on the cross-cutting issues of women's empowerment, capacity building and sustainability (component 3). The program area includes selected districts in the traditionally neglected administrative regions (counties) of Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Maryland. The German Welthungerhilfe (WHH) remains the sponsor of the program, and will continue to be supported in its implementation by the two NGOs Oxfam-IBIS and Medica Liberia. The political sponsor of the project will be the Ministry for Public Works (MoPW). The BMZ is providing a total of EUR 14.7 million over four years to finance the project. Due to the significantly higher financing requirements in the program areas, a reserve check has been carried out for an additional EUR 20.9 million, which can be implemented in any subsequent phases.
