Description

New Story is an independent distribution company whose editorial is focused on arthouse films, both fiction and documentary (e.g., M by Yolande Zauberman, WE by Alice Diop - Berlinale Documentary Award and Best Film of the Encounters Section, THE SUPER-8 YEARS by Nobel Prize Annie Ernaux and David Ernaux Briot, IN THE REARVIEW by Maciek Hamela). We pay a lot of attention to the cinematographic quality of the films as well as their accessibility to diversified audiences. Since its creation, New Story has maintained an editorial line resolutely focused on auteur films, both young and established, launched at major festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Toronto, etc.). We’re also higly active on European and international arthouse films (MEMORIA by Apichatpong Weerasethakul – Cannes’ Jury Prize 2021, COMA by Bertrand Bonello, THE DAMNED DON'T CRY by Fyzal Boulifa - Venice Days 2022, BRING THEM DOWN by Christopher Andrews – TIFF 2024, etc). In 2024, we distributed two European films, HOLLY by Belgian director Fien Troch which was presented in Competition at Venice, and CROSSING by the Swedish-Georgian director Levan Akin, launched in Berlin. We already have two European releases scheduled for 2025 with SEPTEMBER SAYS by Ariane Labed (Cannes 2024 - Official Selection) and GAVAGAÏ by Ulrich Köhler that we bought on script. We also plan to acquire more titles at major European festivals taking place throughout the year. The European Distribution support plays a crucial role in our efforts to discover and promote European talent and share Europe’s creativity and cultural diversity with the French public. With an average of 7 films distributed a year, half of which are non-national films, our aim is to defend originality, diversity and to offer sensitive and powerful representations to a wide range of audiences.
